The “Teste di Cavallo” are pieces of furniture of high artistic value craft created in policrome cooked clay, enameled with the Raku tecnique or refined with metals and the process of oxidation and heat reduction.. All production phases are handmade: from the production of the clays, and the shaping to the enameling, and the Raku cooking and packing The Raku technique was developed in Japan to create implements for for the tea ceremony, interpreted as a sacred ritual of welcoming, peace and reconciliation. Following its recent introduction into the Western world, the Raku technique’s fundamental principles have been significantly distorted. The decorative image, with metal reflex and carving (craquelé), and the uniqueness of the production process during which the object is pulled out from the oven still incandescent, have turned this technique into an extremely original process. During the Raku production process the object suffers a strong thermic shock. The piece of white or colored clay, after being molded into the desired shape, is cooked first at 950-1000 C. Then, it is decorated, utilizing special oxides and enamels which change in different ways when brought into contact with air, smoke or water. The Raku ceramics are much appreciated. Many of them are extraordinary artwork and are displayed in museums and private collections. The "Teste di Cavallo" are not painted and are turned into unique pieces. The photographs included are just samples: the reflexes, tones and the details of the shape are always unique. The handmade work makes it a unique piece. The smoothing and final polishing make it soft to the touch, preserving all the characteristics of the material
